How Reiki Works: Part 1

Natural energy flows through every part of the earth. It caresses the edges of buildings, slides through our bodies and drifts lazily on the summer breeze. It is life and allows for the interconnected nature of the world to continue through a cosmic balance of positive and negative forces.

But it is not always a consistent flow. There are many crevices, cracks, vortexes, niches and other tight n’ teeny spaces where this energy gets trapped. Picture a swirling eddy along the river’s edge; it will spin endlessly without interruption. Some of these areas exist within us, and positivity or negativity can charge, unchecked, within them.

As physics teaches us, positive energy seeks to become negative and negative seeks to become positive. When particles are positive, they act excitedly and vibrate at higher frequencies. When they are negative, they slow down and begin to drift apart, seeking positivity.

So, what are we to do when negativity gets trapped within us? When negative experiences invade our thoughts and poison our actions? We turn to healers, of course. Like visiting the doctor to see if your toe is broken, you visit practitioners of Reiki in Calgary to rid yourself of negative life energy.

Fun fact: In the Sanskrit language, life energy is called Prana. Other names include mako, Qi, vitality and so on. “So on” isn’t a name, of course.

What Does Calgary Reiki Do for Me?

In a broad sense, Reiki cleanses negative energy in your being; this is absolutely true. However, understanding the many nooks and crannies of the human body requires study and practice by trained students.

The first step in understanding is realizing that several energy pathways course through you. These are divided into chakras, meridians and nadis.

These energy centres are the energy portals of your body. Much like the epidermis allows the flowing of certain liquids into the body, the chakras are responsible for channelling all traffic of the individual’s innate energy field. There are seven of them in total, namely:

  1. Root chakra
  2. Sacral chakra
  3. Solar Plexus chakra
  4. Heart chakra
  5. Throat chakra
  6. Brow chakra
  7. Crown chakra

Meridians are a term that you often find associated with acupuncture, but they also play an important role in Reiki. There are fourteen of them in total, and they act as representatives of biological functions. This means organs like the kidneys, heart and bladder have a meridian attached to them.

According to the-energy-healing-site.com, nadis are connected to the chakras and act like the roads of energy travel. There are over 72,000 in the body to channel life force into every cell. Some are larger and more important to daily life, like Sushumna. This particular nadi passes through the spinal column, connecting the first and seventh chakras. Some call it the Path to Enlightenment.
